The 40th Ryder Cup.
USA Europe
Bubba Watson -- Thomas Bjorn
Rickie Fowler -- Victor Dubuisson
Matt Kuchar -- Jamie Donaldson
Zach Johnson -- Stephen Gallacher
im Furyk -- Sergio Garcia
Jimmy Walker -- Martin Kaymer
Hunter Mahan -- Graeme McDowell
Keegan Bradley -- Rory McIlroy
Jordan Spieth -- Ian Poulter
Phil Mickelson -- Justin Rose
Webb Simpson -- Jimmy Walker
Patrick Reed -- Lee Westwood

Team Europe looks stronger on paper. However on Sunday two years ago, Team USA looked unstoppable and look what happened.

Rickie, Zach, Jordan & Phil look the key players for the USA.

Rory and Sergio have been hot all year. Hopefully Westwood can leave his current rotten form behind and gather his usual Ryder Cup point tally.

Two nice captains in Tom Watson and the West Ham supporter, Paul McGinley.

Europe go in as favourites this time but I expect this to be close and come right down to the wire on Sunday.

Hopefully the weather is good in Scotland next week!

Early bets:

Top USA Rookie: Jimmy Walker 15/8. Likely to be paired with Fowler.

Top USA scorer: Fowler 6/1.

Re: The 40th Ryder Cup.
Saturdays Foursomes were the absolute sucker punch for team US. Must of been proper demoralising that evening trying to pick yourselves up but knowing you pretty much had to take 3 1/2 pts from the 1st 4 games to give yourselves a chance

Highlight of the tournament for me will be McIlroy`s putt on 17 followed up by Sergio`s approach to 18 when 2 down. Again a complete kick in the bollocks when all looked lost

Was it Langer who said once of a US Ryder Cup team " they are 11 good blokes and then there is Paul Azinger" ?

The final shot to the hole by the Welshman was something to behold reminded me of Tiger at his best.

The rookies on both sides played pretty well I thought. Reed was probably USA's best player as he was consistent over the 3 days.

Donaldson looked like a Ryder Cup veteran out there, at times.

I hope they do give to Azinger, Sprouts. Bloke's a HELMET, and I'd love it if we beat him.

The furore over Mickelson's remarks is over the top - just saw the extract, he was asked directly why 2008 was successful and gave an honest answer.

Fred COUPLES should be the next US captain if they have any sense.

He was a huge FIST, so wouldn;t come as any surprise if he's cashed in his insurance and done a runner.

Griff0,

They need the young players not to go the same way as this utter cunt!

They're a funny bunch, Cough.

If I could make any sort of parallel, it would be a bitlike England's 'Golden Generation'....great week in, week out, but utter shit when it comes to this.
Their young players won a decent number of points, and showed enough heart for them to hopeful for the future

Eerie "It’s got to the point where I actually feel a bit sorry for the Yanks"

The 2 Ryder cups prior to this one, Europe only won by a single point. In 2008 the USA won. Don't feel sorry for them.

Re: The 40th Ryder Cup.
Mickelson got it wrong about why the USA won in 2008. The real reason wasn't that Azinger was so good, it was that the European captain, Nick Faldo was so utterly useless.

I had a £10 on 17-11 at 20's. Apparently that French cunt managed to lose his 1 shot lead on the last hole to A/S. I am rather peeved today.

stewie, I don't really know too much about it but the USA seem to be relying on some old uns but good in the past?

Fair comment?

The Americans had a lower average world ranking than us.

We just beat them. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

What about SA, they have some decent golfers?

I don't agree with all of this about what Mickelson said. He was asked how to change or improve things, anything he recommended would have looked like criticism of Watson, wouldn't it?

Re: The 40th Ryder Cup.
Cough, the chance of one country throwing up 12 mavericks is probably not as high as around 50 countries doing the same.

Just seems a tired format in this day and age, they should do Europe vs AAA (America, Australasia & Africa) gives it a fancy name, and brings a bit of something else into it.

It’s got to the point where I actually feel a bit sorry for the Yanks, they’re like the pathetic underdog, which you never want to think about the Yanks.

Mickelson or Watson?

Hmmm, tough choice

How many active golfers does the USA have compared to Europe?
